Monthly Review: April 2016 (And 2016 Goal Checkin)

Two Happiness teams take a selfie after our barbecue in Austin
Each month, I publish a monthly review, a sort of public accountability report, looking at goals, reading, habits, etc. You can find all previous months here.

April was a pretty fantastic month. I took a trip down to Austin to hang out with Sparta, the Happiness team I’m on at Automattic. We ate some great barbecue, listened to some live music, and even managed to get some work in. Our home renovation project was started (and almost completed). I felt relatively productive all month.

Since we’re a third of the way through the year, I’m going to tack on a little extra this month and review the previous month’s goals as well as how I’m doing for my yearly targets thus far.

Monthly Review: March 2016

How in the world did March fly by so quickly? There were a lot of areas where I fell short including some habits I was focused on. Despite those shortcomings, it was still a great month. We were able to get in a good amount of skiing as the season comes to a close. Workouts were solid. We indulged in some great food during Restaurant Week here in Denver. So many awesome things!

Full recap of habits, books, etc below!

Monthly Review: February 2016

I publish a monthly review of habits, work, etc. You’ll be able to find them all here.

February was a fun month for several reasons. Multiple good friends came out to visit. My wife and I got several days of skiing in. We joined a CrossFit gym, which has been amazing. I was able to tackle some difficult code problems and gain confidence working in React. Drink for Pink was approved as a 501(c)3 nonprofit by the IRS. All great stuff! Full recap of goals, books, habits, etc below.

My Monthly Review for January 2016 featuring a set of skiers

I publish a monthly review of habits, work, etc. You’ll be able to find them all here.

I can’t believe the first month of the new year is already come and gone! January was pretty darn awesome. I celebrated my 28th birthday; we skied literally every weekend; and, I felt pretty darn productive at work (while taking all weekends off). Here’s a full look at the month.

2015 Retrospective

At the start of each year, I set aside time to look back at the previous year including what went right and what went wrong with the goal of identifying areas for improvement moving forward. This year, I’m taking a page out of Nate Green’s book and doing what he calls a “Personal Retrospective”, which provides a solid structure for looking back on 2015.

Monthly Review: December 2015

I publish a monthly review of habits, work, etc. You’ll be able to find them all here.

December was a really amazing month. I wrapped up a freelance project that I was working on for quite awhile. I was able to spend some time offline with my wife and friends. We went skiing for the first time this year. And, of course, we celebrated Christmas (although not really on Christmas Day). It was an amazing finish to an unbelievable year. I’ll be posting a reflection on that in a few days, but for right now, here is my December review.

Monthly Review: November 2015

I publish a monthly review of habits, work, etc. You’ll be able to find them all here.

November was a bit of a rollercoaster. There were days where I felt like I really had everything under control and others where I was scrambling to get things done. I felt like I really nailed down a routine towards the end of the month that I’ll be sharing more about soon.

Monthly Review: October 2015

I’m going to start publishing a monthly recap at the end of each month detailing my habits, projects, and tinkerings. I’ve done this before, but it’s never really stuck. Inspired by Belle Beth Cooper’s monthly reviews (I’m mimicking her format), I’m hoping this will stick. You’ll be able to find them all here.

This month was a bit of an oddball because I was traveling quite a bit. First, I went to Park City, Utah for the Automattic Grand Meetup. It was an absolute blast! From there, I traveled down to Austin, Texas for a wedding. Then, Charlotte and I stayed in Austin the entire next week for a vacation and explored the city.
