Monthly Review: November 2016

I publish a monthly review of habits, work, etc. You’ll be able to find them all here.

I really can’t believe December is already here! November was a pretty fantastic month filled with a bit of travel to Lake Tahoe (featured pic) and Chicago and an awesome Thanksgiving. I’m excited to decorate the house for the holidays and spend whatever time I can with family and friends. I hope you had a wonderful month as well!

Goal Recap From November

✔️ Publish every weekday on my personal blog

I’m excited to continue this trend and potentially expand to weekends as well. It’s getting easier as time goes on.

✔️ Read 3 books

I was able to hit the mark here despite not finishing an audiobook. Thanks for the Feedback is the most helpful book I’ve read all year.

✖️ Migrate Site Roles to Redux state in Calypso

Someone else beat me to the punch, but that’s really no excuse. I didn’t put enough effort into coding this month.

✖️ 20 hours of coding

Failed miserably hitting only 28 minutes across all of November. My time was dedicated towards other projects at Automattic that were bumped up the priority list.

What habit did I focus on?

My goal was to hit 20 days of 5 minutes per day using the Calm app. I ended up moving over to Headspace because I think the UI is nicer. I still missed the mark hitting just 6 sessions in November.

What did I read?

November was a solid month of reading. I made some good progress on Shoe Dog (audio). For completed books, I read:

In December, I’m going to read Payoff, Radical Focus, Customer Success, and Primed to Perform.

Time Spent Coding

As I mentioned above, my focus was shifted towards other items, but I’m still disappointed with the result here. I’m blocking off time on Fridays to hopefully alleviate this starting in December.

Goals For December

  • Write every weekday on my personal blog.
  • Complete the Learn SQL course on Treehouse.
  • Read 4 books.
  • Publish recap of 2016 for Drink for Pink.
  • Prepare personal recap of 2016 and goals for 2017.
  • Complete 4 pull requests to Calypso.

Habit for December

I’m a bit torn on what to focus on over the next month. The main habits I wanted to build this year (reading, writing, and work/life balance) are mostly set. I’m going to give myself a bit of a break in December as a result!
